How Much Admin Time Is Costing Your Business
Many businesses underestimate the true cost of manual admin. Learn how repetitive tasks impact profitability and where automation, CRMs and customer portals can save time.
Read article →WordPress is fantastic for many websites, but some businesses need more than a website. Here is why we chose custom PHP for Perfect Features and Rapid Skips.
WordPress is an excellent platform and powers a large percentage of the websites I build. However, not every project is simply a website.
Sometimes a business needs a complete operational platform, customer portal, booking system or CRM. In those situations, custom PHP can often provide a better long-term solution.
WordPress excels at content management, marketing websites, service websites and ecommerce stores.
Business systems are different. They often need to manage workflows, automate processes, handle customer data, generate documents and provide secure portals for different types of users.
That is where custom development becomes worth considering.
One of the best examples is Perfect Features Training Academy.
The project required far more than a website. It needed a complete learner management platform.

Whilst this could technically have been built using WordPress and numerous plugins, the platform would have become significantly more complex to maintain.
Instead, a bespoke PHP application allowed every step of the learner journey to be tailored specifically around how the academy operates.
Rapid Skips required a completely different type of system.
The focus was not content management but operational workflow management.

These are operational business processes rather than website content.
Building these requirements directly into a custom CRM allowed the system to be designed around the company's workflow rather than trying to adapt a generic plugin.
Every feature was designed specifically for the business rather than adapting the business around existing software limitations.
Only the required functionality exists. There are no unnecessary plugins, themes or features running in the background.
Custom PHP allows workflows to be built exactly as required.
As both businesses continue to grow, new functionality can be added without fighting against platform limitations or plugin restrictions.
This does not mean custom development is always the answer.
For many businesses I still recommend WordPress because it remains one of the best platforms available for:
The goal is not to choose the most complex solution. The goal is to choose the right solution.
Perfect Features and Rapid Skips both required complete business systems rather than traditional websites.
By choosing custom PHP, we were able to create platforms that matched each company's workflow, automated key processes and provided a foundation for future growth.
